I want to install a video camera or two on my home; porch, front yard, etc. I want to use an actual DVR and POE cameras. 720p strikes me as plenty of pixels. What I’d like to find is something used on Craigslist, but I don’t know what to consider. Any suggestions?

My house is all Ubiquity gear in general and we have one of their POE cameras. We have not bothered to connect it yet, but by god we own it. I’ve heard good things. They run about $140/ ea, but you can get them for cheaper if you buy a 5-pack.

No camera suggestions but I will suggest some night vision infrared flood light bulbs with the camera I work with security systems and for the most part the infrared lights on the camera sucks.

i would suggest a standalone PVR solution with hard drives and web access.
something like this
it still records even if internet is down. Put a UPS and will work even with power outage.
can set up most systems to send alerts to your email.
most have web access to see from any computer

That’s exactly what I had in mind. I was just hoping I could find last year’s model on Craigslist used for cheaper. I was hoping for some specific brand recommendations.
